Pumpkin patches are a fun activity in the fall. Picking your own pumpkin at a pumpkin patch, no matter your age, gets you in the fall spirit. If the pumpkin patch is a charity, that fall spirit can be doubled.
Visiting a pumpkin patch is a visual treat. The rows and rows of orange orbs is a delight for any eyes. It is a lot more fun to buy your pumpkins at a pumpkin patch and not in a pile at the grocery store.
Don’t get me wrong, I have bought pumpkins from grocery stores, garden centers, stores like Target, as well as nurseries. (I like pumpkins!) And the result is the same–you get to bring home a delightful fall ornament. But the feeling you get walking around looking for the perfect pumpkin, or two (or more!) can’t be found at a grocery store.
Here are some reasons to venture out to a pumpkin patch instead.
These orange rows make a great background for a picture. No matter your age, pumpkin pictures are wonderful. Taking pictures for Instagram, taking pictures of your pup, or getting the perfect picture of your children, pumpkin patch pictures are perfection. (try saying that three times fast!)
I have pictures of my children in a pumpkin patch and I still cherish them.
A lot of pumpkin patches have professional photographers set up waiting to take your pictures. Or you can bring your own pro to the patch. (I recommend calling ahead to make sure this is okay) Pumpkin patches make great pictures even with your phone.

Story-time in the patch
The pumpkin patch we visited in Waco at the Central Christian Church offers story-time for children. This is a great activity for kids of all ages. I would love to sit in the hay and hear a great story, wouldn’t you? Check with the pumpkin patch in your area to see what fun activities they offer.
They also offer story-time for adults in the form of worship. This church has a Worship in the Patch. What a great way and place to worship!
If the pumpkin patch you visit is a fundraiser for a charity, you are helping out and having fun. If you are gong to buy a pumpkin anyway, wouldn’t you rather help out an organization? The Central Christian Church Pumpkin Patch is a fundraiser for all the youth activities throughout the year. This sends kids to camps, mission trips and other fun activities for the youth of the church. I consider that a win win!!
My youngest daughter and I went today, for research and to take these pictures. (In fact, she took most of these pictures!) We had fun finding the pumpkins we wanted to take home. Children were there laughing and playing and having their pictures taken. We wished we had brought our dogs.
The prices at this pumpkin patch were way below our grocery store and any of the other places I have purchased pumpkins this year. I felt good helping out this great charity while adding to my pumpkin patch I have started in my front yard!
If you need to get in touch with your fall feels, head to your nearest pumpkin patch. I dare you to walk away without a smile on your face!
I hope for you pictures in the pumpkin patch! I hope for you lots of fall feels!
love and blessings~dd
