12 Great Tips For A Long-Lasting Marriage

We are celebrating our long-lasting marriage this week. We are celebrating thirty-one years of marriage, love and friendship. It was in the stars for us to be together, to raise a family, and to spend our empty nest years continuing to love each other.

I don’t know how this happened, but time has flown by. We met 32 years ago, dated for seven months, and got engaged. Quick, but it has lasted. A long-lasting marriage.

Letting Go Of Perfection And Accepting Yourself

Letting go of perfection will lead to a happier you. Accepting yourself for who you are will also bring you more happiness. We all know there is no such thing as perfect, but we all strive for perfection. And, striving for perfection, only sets you up for failure.

We all have this stupid notion that we must be perfect. But, we don’t. We don’t have to be perfect and letting go of perfection is a must.

Looking At The World Through Childlike Eyes

Looking at the world through childlike eyes may seem simple and a waste of time, but I believe if you take the time to play, to be childlike, you will smile. You will appreciate your surroundings and regain the simple joy of life.

Babies are innocent and happy, until they meet the pressures of this cruel world. (Or they are tired, hurt, hungry or need a diaper change!)

There are so many unhappy people in this world who have lost their joy. They don’t smile, they don’t laugh. They have lost the ability to have simple joy. I think sometimes the world, and all its busy-ness and negativity, rob us of all our joy.

Six Loving Ways Adults Can Repay Grandparents

Grandparents are special. Late in life, I learned an unselfish lesson. Although later than I wish–still valuable. I learned that elderly people are interesting, sweet and worth my time. My lesson was to give back some of the time and love my grandparents gave me.

Learning To Listen With Your Heart

I know how important it is to listen, really listen with your heart. I will admit, I am not always the best at it. Listening is a form of caring. When you listen with intent, you are telling the story-teller what they are saying is important to you. You are showing the person they are important to you.

Listen with your heart.

Learning To Listen With Your Heart

“Speak in such a way that others love to listen to you.

Listen in such a way that others love to speak to you.”

I am working hard on this second one. I am working on really listening, when someone is talking to me. Listen with an empathetic ear. I am guilty of failing at this, as I am sure we all are from time to time. If you are like me, you need to learn to listen with your heart.

Support And Nurture Dreams-Grow A Forest

When we help others, by supporting them, we help ourselves. Giving support and nurture to creatives, watering them, we help them build a future. We help them grow into a tree. We help grow a forest. By doing this, our own success will follow.

This is a story of a little acorn, dreams, support and nurture. and a future forest.

“Dreams are the seeds of change. Nothing ever grows without a seed, and nothing ever changes without a dream.” Debby Boone

Support And Nurture Dreams-Grow A Forest

This weekend, and all spring long, I have been getting my hands dirty. Although I actually hate getting my hands dirty, literally, I do love the aftermath. The finished product. I love the outcome of hard work.

Nurture Your Creation, And Your Creation Will Nurture You

I keep finding myself outside, planting. Planting flowers, buying more plants and flowers, to plant. I get great joy from making my patio beautiful. My shade garden also makes me happy. The joy comes from the planning and planting, the taking care of the plants. And later, joy comes when I look at my hard work and see the beauty.

Planting a garden, or planting a container garden, is hard work.  But the payoff is beauty. Nurture your creation and your creation will nurture you.

Courage-Challenging Yourself to Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone

Courage and bravery can mean anything to anyone. To me, courage is doing something that is uncomfortable, something that causes my heart to race, something that will help me grow as a writer, and as a person.

Courage is defined as “the ability to do something that frightens one.” And also as, “strength in the face of pain or grief.”

I have written about courage many times before, and I think it is important enough to write about again. I have written about my mantra–Over the Edge, how I found these three powerful words and why I use them.
