Have you ever looked at a blank wall in your house and thought about how you will decorate it? Did the blank wall scare you? Did doubt overwhelm you and cause you to leave it blank? I have been where you are and I will show you how easy it is to fill your wall with items you love.
Gallery walls are all over Pinterest but how do you turn a blank wall into an inspiring gallery wall?
First, I want to assure you I am no expert or decorator. So, if I can make a gallery wall look easy, you can do it, too! I started collecting items for my office long before we moved. I collected inspirational quotes and graphics, clip boards, pictures and memorabilia that would make me happy to look at while I was writing.
You don’t have to spend a lot. I used my printer to print graphics I found online. I bought cheap black frames at Target. Using the same color frames or using frames that are similar helps the gallery wall look uniform.
I also bought clip boards of different sizes for the graphics. Varying the sizes keeps the gallery wall interesting. I used chalkboard paint on one of the boards. I also found over-sized clips, without the board.
I also love the letter D.
And maps. I adore maps. I printed the world map and bought the magnetic U.S. map at Michael’s. I plan on making it my wish list of places I want to go in the states. I will put magnets on the cities we have not visited.
I have a few pieces of artwork I adore on my gallery wall. One piece is a heart I bought for myself online from Kim Bullen Check out her beautiful artwork. It is equally inspiring and spiritual.
I also hung my beloved doodle that my friend, Suchi, made for me. I ordered these prints for my parents and for my two daughters at Christmas (of their pets–not mine!) and of course, I had to have one of the weenteam for myself. Perfect addition on my gallery wall. Suchi makes it so easy for you to print and frame yourself.
I have a copy of The Hometown News, where I first started my writing career. This is an edition that was dear to me. On the gallery wall, I also hung a framed invitation, from Magnolia Market, to attend the Media Event for the Grand Opening of Magnolia Market, as well as a postcard from the silos reading “Greetings from Waco“.
Also, on my gallery wall, I included a picture of my 50th birthday celebration in New Orleans. That was a good time had by all.
All things near and dear to me.
My daughter, Cameron, gave me this print for Mother’s Day. She helped me lay all the pieces on the floor. We moved things around and rearranged until we thought it looked perfect.
And then we moved it around some more.
When we thought it looked right, my sweet husband, (who hates to hang pictures), gladly hung them all. (Gladly is a stretch!) I appreciate him being a part of our creative process.
I need to write a blog post about giving up perfection and simply being appreciative for help. (don’t look too close at the wall–this is where I had to give up perfection–but oh, how I appreciate his help! wink wink XOXO)
We started with a few pieces and filled in where small items needed to be.
Having a magnetic board, or a cork board, included in your gallery wall, allows you to change out your inspiration. As do the clip boards. Add items from your travels. Hang a new picture. Print a new graphic. Nothing has to be permanent. There are no rules!
Henri Matisse said, “Creativity takes courage.”
So, where is your courage? Find it!
Once we got started, it wasn’t scary or hard at all.
Next, I am adding this inspirational graphic. I printed it yesterday from toowordy The world needs more LOVE and Love Wins every single time!
I urge you to try this. Gather items that mean something to you, make you smile or inspire you. Grab some pictures, hung in similar frames. And get to hanging! You will love your gallery wall. Remember there are no real rules because you are the creator. It only has to make you happy. If it makes you happy, it will make others happy, as well.

I hope for you the creativity and courage to hang your own gallery wall! And smiles. Because you will be happy you did.
